How To Write Articles That Generate Back Links
by Brian Cotsen

Getting your article picked up and reprinted on other websites increases your back links and your credibility. The key is to write an article with those other websites in mind.

Here we take a look at the essential points to consider when you write articles for those article submission sites and those looking for good content for web pages.

It's not just web spiders that crawl the internet.

Other website owners do too, and they're looking for good keyword rich content for their web pages.

When you're writing your articles to submit to article content websites or put on your own website you should be writing for 3 different groups:

  1. The readers who you hope'll be attracted to your 'snappy' headline and great content.
  2. The search engines who'll pick up all the keyword rich content and pop your article on top of the search results.
  3. Other website owners that are looking for good keyword rich content for their web pages but don't have the time to write it or the money to pay someone else to.

Lets focus on group 3, those 'time poor', 'cash poor' website owners looking for content.

Write content that will please them and get you lots of nice back links as well as extra exposure and credibility?

Start by considering what those other websites want:

  • Naturally a well written, relevant articles about issues of interest
  • Good 'Keyword' rich content
  • Fairly neutral content
  • Snappy & focused text
  • Easy to slot into any web page

Well written, relevant articles about issues that interest.

I hope that this goes without saying... but what's the point of writing an article that no one has any interest in?

Also do use the 'Spell Check' and check your grammar! Who wants to reproduce a badly written article?

Write good 'Keyword' rich content.

Of course you always write your content with 'keyword' rich text in mind... Don't you?

Well if you don't, you should. Those potential website owners will be looking to see how your article can increase their website search engine presence.

Here's a tip - put a line at the base of the article to give a list of the main keywords that you use in this article... it will help those website owners optimize the page.

And a well optimised page will be found by the search engines... with your link on it!

Keep your writing style fairly neutral to fit into any sort of website.

What I mean is an article that doesn't refer to your own product too much, or for that matter anyone else's. After all your competitor won't want to publish your article if it is purely a promotion of you or your product. The exception here is if the article is written as a promotional piece for a product or service that other websites sell as part of their affiliate marketing strategy.

However in general you'll get a bigger take up of your article by other website owners looking for good content, if you keep your content neutral.

Keep your writing 'Snappy' & Focused

Writing for the internet is very different from writing for the printed media.

Visitors and other website owners, looking for good content to put on their web pages, will enjoy reading:

Reading from a screen is normally done in a scanning motion so use punchy headlines that tell the reader what the paragraph is about. Short sentences written in a lively chatty way help engage the reader and keep them interested. Bullet lists quickly give vital points.

Easy to slot into different websites.

Website owners will be looking for good content that is relevant to their visitors and easy to slot into their web pages.

Avoid using too many graphics or pictures, these can be difficult to fit in and there may also be copyright issues. Offer graphics that help to tell the story e.g. graphs or screen shots. Avoid cute or pretty pictures just used to brighten up the text.

The text should be good enough to hold your readers interest.

Remember that you won't be able to include those graphics on many article submission sites.

To Sum up

Website owners are looking for:

Well written, keywords rich content that covers current issues or subjects. Neutral in style to fit into any web site. Snappy focused content - Headlines that tell a story, short sentences, bullet points or lists. Articles that are easy to slot into different style websites.

Get writing for your fellow website owners and be the article writer of choice.

Enjoy your writing.
